2017/18 Queen - Miss Shelby Lockie

My name is Shelby Lockie and I am honoured to be the 2017 SHSRA Queen. I am spending my year attending various events as an ambassador for the sport of rodeo, and it is an experience that means the world to me. In July, I travelled to the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyoming to compete in the Queen Contest. I finished seventh overall, as well as second in the impromptu, fifth in horsemanship, fifth in modelling, and eighth in personal interview. I spent the week meeting sponsors, doing radio interviews, signing autographs, and promoting the sport of rodeo. I also made new friends from around Canada and the United States that share the same interests as me. After Nationals, I travelled to Nanton, Alberta for the Canadian High School Rodeo Finals. I was able to visit community members and sponsors, present awards, do radio interviews, and carry flags in grand entries. I was also able to attend the Canadian Cowboys Association Finals, and various other community events in Saskatchewan to promote the sport of rodeo. I am looking forward to the rest of my year as Queen and cannot wait to see what other opportunities it holds.
This experience is helping me build endless skills; everything from horsemanship to public speaking to interview skills and rodeo knowledge. This title has given me endless opportunities to meet new people and gain confidence in myself. I truly believe in the SHSRA Queen program and I strongly recommend that girls run for the title of Queen or Princess. If you are interested in running for the title of SHSRA Queen in 2018, please contact me at 306-771-2580 or shelbydawn3111@gmail.com.
